Fill out a petition and wait

From Create Your Own Story

You decide to fill out a formal petition in hopes that the local government will tell you Walfried von Furchtsam's whereabouts.

You file the petition, and you're told that you'll have the results in three weeks. Ugh.

You call your boss to tell him about your research and the recent news. "Well," he says "That's better results than we were getting from them before. We'll fly you back home tomorrow, and hopefully they'll grant us the petition. If they don't, we'll follow standard procedure for a missing heir."

You fly back to the states. It doesn't take you long at all to get back into your old routine. You start working on some other cases while you wait for the petition results. After a long three weeks, they arrive. And they've granted it! They've given you Walfried von Fruchtsam's contact information. Seems he both exists and is still alive. You send information regarding his brother's death and his inheritance. The rest goes smoothly, and you're able to close it all up without further ado.

Only one thing is unsatisfying about this whole situation. No one has heard from Michael since that phone call a month ago. You feel a bit of guilt about not looking for him. Maybe you would have found him, but probably not. Likely, there was nothing you could have done. You turn away from the window. Really, you need to concentrate right now. A lawyer's work is never finished!
