You leap up. Charmaine wriggles sleepily beside you. Something has woken you. Something is moving in the shadows.
Eeeeeep! Eeeeeep!
It is Kwan skittering over the stones. You wonder if he has found a way to save you.
Charmaine moans. A horrible, despairing sound. Then you see why.
"Oh no!" you groan.
You could just cry right now. Poor Kwan, he must think you are hungry, because in his mouth, he is carrying a big chunk of bright yellow cheese!
That cheese must have been heavy! Kwan is struggling with it as he squeezes through the bars. He claws his way up the mattress, his sharp little teeth digging into the cheese for dear life. Proudly, he drops it at your feet. He is panting from all the effort.
