Duck as she approaches and swing your hatchet at her legs (Zeke)

You drop down and slightly sideways as Marie rushes you, taking a quick chop instead of a long backswing. Marie's knife passes an inch above your head.

Your hatchet bites deeply into her legs. Marie tumbles to the ground, knife falling from her hands. She gives you a pleading look, and you know what she means immediately.

You drop your hatchet, reach down and gently close her eyes. The last thing she ever does is smile at you.

By the time you stand up, there's a TV camera in your face and an announcer with a microphone.

"The winner of Battle Royale, Zeke Davidson! How did you do it, Zeke?"

"Strategic thinking, patience, and a bit of luck in that final combat. Marie came a whisker from embedding her knife in my skull."

"Were you aiming for her legs, or was that because you had to duck?"

"No, I was definitely aiming for her legs."

"What are you going to do now?"

"Try to make something of myself, I suppose."

"And there you have it. Tune in next year for the next Battle Royale!"

A man appears and hands you a check for $200,000. "I'm the sponsor. Let's get you home."

You never make many friends, but you do succeed, with the help of the $200,000, in making a successful life.
