"We need to check back there before we settle in just yet," you say, pointing out the back door with the shotgun. "Follow me, and keep the light up."
Claire follows along, casting the beam over your shoulder and on the door. You take careful steps down the aisle, raising the shotgun to your shoulder. "Maybe we'll get lucky and it will be empty," she says.
"Or luckier, and find a working shower,dry clothes, and two freshly cooked cheeseburgers," you reply, trying to lighten the mood.
When you get to the door, you can see from the frame that it opens inward. You raise your foot and motion to Claire that you're going to kick it, and she nods. You lift your leg high, cock it at the knee, then drive your heel into the door. The sound of the impact echoes through the church, the door vibrates a bit under your attack, and you hear someone inside shriek.
Claire pushes you aside. "Is someone in there?!" She says, now knocking on the door. "We're not sick. If you're not sick open up."
You hear a feminine voice from inside. "I'll open up, but please don't hurt me."
