You skip the wash and head home.
You park in the garage and go inside. Candace greets you in the entry hall with a peck on the cheek, freshly tanned and showered and spritzed. Man, she tries so hard. She really does. But she's just old. For fuck's sake, she's your age. How are you supposed to find that attractive?
"You look lovely," you mumble.
Then you head into the living room to watch the news and drink a glass of vodka, which you do every night. You switch on the TV. The local station has a breaking story about an incident at the car wash you just passed. Tons of police are on the scene there.
The anchor is just starting to say that similar disturbance reports are coming in from all over the viewing area, when suddenly the TV signal cuts out.
A second later you hear a girl screaming next door. You burst up from your chair. The sliding door to the back yard is just a few feet away. You can open it and run next door to help right now... but you can also run to your bedroom first and get your .357 Magnum from the closet safe.
