It's almost time for the Reaping, the mandatory, district-wide gathering where the two Hunger Games tributes from each district are chosen. You're walking in this huge crowd of kids, until you reach the section where the 15 year olds were supposed to be.
A few minutes later, the District 5 escort, a small, cheerful woman named Kitty enters the stage, and a few people in the crowd clap. Most of the kids were paralyzed with fear, though, including yourself. This might be your death sentance. She gives the audience a big grin that was obviously fake, and giggles, "Hello District 5! Happy Hunger Games, and may the odds be ever in your favor!" Her hand gestures towards the big screen above her as she says, "We've brought you a special movie to watch, all the way from our amazing Capitol!"
The "special movie" was the same one they made everyone watch every year. It explained how Panem was created, the Dark Days, the wars, the rebellions, and how the Hunger Games began. "So, from that day forwards," the video ended. "We called the compition the Hunger Games, and it brought honor and glory to all of us here in Panem."
In the split second the video ended, Kitty began to talk again, "Now, what you've all been waiting for, our tributes! The ladies will go first, like usual." When she said that, your heart seemed to stop from both fear and dread. "The female tribute from District 5 is..." she seemed to be holding it for a dramatic effect, but it was just scaring you more. "Celeste Rose!"
When she says your name, you freeze with terror. You're going to be in the Hunger Games. The only thing that gets you to move is the fact that you might get in trouble if you don't. You walk onto the stage...
