Premise and Back-story

This story is basically Wreck-It-Ralph with elements from Tron. Knowledge of Wreck-It-Ralph is a plus if you want to contribute to the story, but not absolutely required. Knowledge of the video game world that you are writing for is rather important, however.

For readers who are not familiar with Wreck-It-Ralph, the arcade is filled with games, that are all connected through a single surge-suppressing power strip (fire waiting to happen right?). The games characters can visit one another’s game by traveling through this power strip (which the game characters call Game Central Station). There is a character called the Surge Protector that acts like a security officer for Game Central Station. If a game character dies in their own game, they re-spawn. If they die outside their game they are gone forever. Some game characters exist without a home in Game Central Station. When a game is unplugged from the arcade, the characters can evacuate the game, and live homelessly in the power strip.

The characters themselves are not exactly as they are defined by their games. They know that they are video game characters and that they are playing a part for the gamers; so even the bitterest of rivals don’t fight each other after the arcade is closed . . . it is just a part they play. This does not mean that they all get along either. Their base personality is the one they are represented as having in their game; however their personality evolves over time like living beings. Characters from newer games are more likely to have personalities as they are defined by their game. Characters from older games have had more of a chance to live and grow. The time that they have had to grow seems to directly relate to how long they have been plugged in at the arcade, not how old the game actually is.

This story occurs after the events of the movie Wreck-It-Ralph.

The Story and Gameplay

In this story, you are a gamer that sneaks into the arcade to play some games after hours. You don’t have any quarters, so you try to jury-rig a game and are electrocuted. By a bit of strange science you find yourself inside the world of the video game! You explore the video game worlds, looking for a way back to the real world.

You will have an avatar with abilities. As a gamer, your code isn’t set in stone like the video game characters. You can become stronger, and gain video game abilities as you explore the worlds. You will have various means of gaining new abilities and powering up your attributes by interacting with the game characters. This is done by defeating the characters in combat, or mingling your code (having sexual relations) with them, and through various story devices.

Writer's Guidelines

If you are interested in writing for Arcade Adventure, please read the guidelines.

Active Games

I am going to start the story off with only the games that are referenced in the movie being in the arcade. When the specific game in a franchise is not specified, I will choose which game in the franchise is present in the arcade.

Homeless Characters

Some characters presented in the movie are unlikely to be active games in the arcade, so I am listing them as homeless.

Writers should feel free to add games if they wish to write for them. Computer games that aren’t likely to be arcade games are possible to add as well, but that would require a new area to be added to the world in the form of a computer. If anyone wants to write for these game worlds tell me, and I will do some setup for the computer world.

Character Templates Page

I will maintain a page with the character templates on it so that writers (including myself) can quickly access those templates for use in the story. It may take a while to get all of their pictures in, as I have to wait 20 minutes between each one.
