Ms. Pierce doesn't even wait for you to say hello.
"You're late," she says. "Why aren't you at work?"
"I'm on the side of the road," you say. "My car broke down. I've got a tow truck on the way."
"A likely story," Ms. Pierce says.
"I'll bring the bill to prove it," you say.
"I'd rather see for myself," Ms. Pierce says. "I'm using your cell phone to get a fix on your location. Ah. I'll be there shortly."
The line goes dead. Just then, you see the tow truck pull up in front of you. Your friend Billie hops out of the cab and comes around to the side of your car.
"Hey there," Billie says. "Get out and I'll hook up your poor clunker."
