An Embarrassing Adventure/alley-shoo dog

The mangy dog lunges at you, jaws open! You skitter backwards, but it clamps it teeth down on your towel and easily pulls it off of you. Reflexively, you grab on to the towel will both hands and begin the most bizarre tug of war of your life.

You and the dog pull with your entire bodies, shaking the towel back in forth in preparation for a moment of weakness where your opponent loses their grip for a split-second. Brazenly, you move as if to kick the dog with your bare foot, though you are not so adrenaline-fueled as to put it within his reach. He falls for it once or twice, but one by one your tricks only leave you unbalanced.

To your horror, you hear the fabric of the towel ripping apart with each pull. It has reached its breaking point and, if this continues, there is not telling what could come of the towel.

Think fast!

• Kick it square in the head. It will think I'm faking again.
• A kick is too risky; let it have the towel as a distraction and run!
