Accept the invitation to speak at the R.G.S.

From Create Your Own Story

You send word back that you will accept the invitation. Several months later, you are standing in front of a microphone addressing the R.G.S. Sir Clements Markham, Sir Ernest Shackleton, Hugh Robert Mill, Sir Clements' cousin Albert, and other famous figures in the field of Arctic exploration are present.

"I would like to open with a tribute to the gallant men of the Scott Polar Expedition," you say. Before you can continue, there is a round of applause.

"Captain Scott, Mr. Wilson, Lieutenant Bowers, Captain Oates and Petty Officer Edgar Evans gave their lives in the quest, not only to reach a geographic goal, but to advance the noble cause of scientific knowledge. For this, they should be ever remembered." More applause makes you pause again.

From there, you proceed. Your speech is a rousing success and you receive praise from the leading British newspapers, especially The Times of London, who refers to you as "a most graceful winner who saluted the valorous efforts of five of our nation's great heroes."

You return to Norway, and a couple of months later, you receive a call from Captain Amundsen inviting you to join him for his drift across the North Polar Basin in the Maud.
