You close your eyes for a brief moment as you try to summon as much strength as you can muster. A wave washes over you and the pain from the wound becomes a dull ache; you feel a strength you never knew you had empower you.

You roll onto your side, and grab the gunman's leg. You tear it out from under him with the force of a truck and not only succeed in distracting him but you also send him crashing to the floor.

"Son of a-!" you hear him shout as he falls, smacking his head hard on the wooden floor.

His partner moves to assist him, and you see the bartender duck down behind the bar.

You crawl ontop of the gunman to keep him down longer as his parnter grabs you and tries to tear you off.

Several bright flashes come from under you as the gunman lets loose with several rounds into your abdomen. Thankfully you feel little pain as death comes for you a second time today. You close your eyes tight as a bright flash suddenly appears and blinds you. Who knew the light at the end of the tunnel was so intense?

As the light then fades, you feel better. You open your eyes and find you're no longer laying on the bar room floor but instead lay in some sort of white void. You quickly find that you no longer have several holes in your torso, either, and get yourself up onto your feet.

"Thank you," a voice says, eminating from behind you. You immediately recognize it as the same voice you made the deal with.

You turn to find yourself staring at some kind of spirit. A hooded white cloak floats in the air a few feet away with a featureless black porcelain mask where its' face should be. In the white voids that are its' eyes you can sense a strong malevolent presence and deep hatred... for you.

"What... happened?" you ask, followed by a quick glance around to confirm you and this spirit are the only things here.

"By saving a life you have given me enough strength to break free of the mask my corrupt, twisted side had sealed me in. I acted quickly to seal it away, and bring you here."

"I made a deal with your corrupt side?" you question, perhaps a little confused, "Why would it offer me a deal that would allow you to free yourself?"

"It did not know it would. I am strengthened by such acts and it believed that after it sealed me away it would be the one to gain that power. But things do not work that way. A life, or rather, soul saved always will empower me. A soul corrupted, or stolen will always strengthen it and never me," it responds, and you detect a hint of sorrow in its' voice.

"It will be back, won't it?"

"Not for a long time."

"Won't it have learned from its' mistake?"

"No. It is far too twisted and single-minded in its' lust for strength that this cycle will repeat. I only hope that there is someone else like you out there somewhere to free me each time this happens."

"So what happens now?" you ask, giving another glance around the void.

"That is up to you. I will not force upon you that which you may not want so I leave the choice to you. Do you wish for me to restore you to life, or allow you to pass on to the afterlife?"

You contemplate its' offer. You originally had agreed so that you could live again, but now that the offer of the afterlife is on the table again, you'd have to consider just which one you really desire.

The End: You have saved a life and freed a spirit. Now it is time for you to choose: live again, or go on to the afterlife? Whatever your choice... that is another story entirely.
