You are the newest member of Havoc Squad. Having excelled in the academy and received numerous commendations for your service, you were chosen by special forces command to bolster the strength of the Republic's most elite unit. You arrived on the war-torn planet of Ord Mantell to join up with your squad. Gearbox, Havoc Squad's technician, meet you at your dropship and escorted you to Fort Garnik in an armored walker.

During the trip, you make small chat with a friendly Gearbox who gave you some details about the squad's mission. During the trip, your walker was ambushed by AT missiles fired from a nearby village, and Gearbox sent you in to neutralize the threat they pose to other walkers coming through the region.

You methodically cleared out the village and destroyed all of the caches of missiles, while also finding some time to assist other Republic units in the area. You also learn some rudimentary information about the situation on Ord Mantell. The planet is caught in a brutal civil war between the Sepratists and the planet's Loyalist government. While the Loyalists have the full support of the Republic Military, the Separatists are remarkably well trained and equipped. Two years of war have ravaged the planet's landscape and destabilized its government, and the Separatists have come dangerously close to overrunning the last major Republic stronghold on the planet. The civilian population has been brutalized by the war, and the corruption in the government that the Separatists were allegedly protesting has only got worse.

After you successfully fought your way back to Fort Garnik, you received your official introduction and briefing from Harron Tavus, the commander of Havoc Squad. While there, you also met the other members of Havoc Squad: Wraith, Needles, and Fuse. You also meet Aric Jordan, an abrasive Cathar officer with the fort's Operations Unit who will be coordinating Havoc squad missions from the base.

Your mission is to find a ZR-57 orbital strike bomb stolen by the Separatists. Your first assignment is to rendezvous with Bellis, a Republic spy in Talloran Village. Having finished your briefing, you find yourself standing in the middle of Fort Garnik.

You could proceed directly with your mission, but there are many other opportunities around as well. The Separatists have been targeting civilians since the war began, and as a result Fort Garnik has several large refugee camps.

Walking around, you notice one of the fort's infantry officers trying to get your attention. Ignoring him for the moment, you walk into one of the refugee camps and notice an attractive woman vainly searching her belongings.
