First things first, if you're going to spending some time in the ravine with the dragon, you're going to need the basics: food, shelter, and water. While orcs are extremely tough and can go for days without water and weeks without food, and can sleep almost anywhere in any conditions, you don't particularly like being hungry, thirsty, wet, or cold. In addition, you have no idea how long the dragon has been caught or when it last ate. It might be less likely to make a meal out of you if its belly is already full.
Water won't be too hard to come by, since there's a river on the other side of the ridge, although transporting it might be problematic. You wish you'd thought to pack a bag of supplies before you'd left your village. Then again, you hadn't expected to find your mate in the bottom of a remote ravine.
Your village is about four hours away. Four hours there and four hours back would put it well after dark before you could return. You're pretty good at reading the land in the daylight, but at night it's a different matter and you could easily get lost. There's also the elven village not far away, but you doubt they'll welcome you in and give you supplies.
