Suggest that you and Annabelle split the bill

"How about we split the bill?" you suggest.

Annabelle frowns. "Okay," she says in an unenthusiastic voice.

You open your mouth again, but she simply waves her hand. "It's okay. We'll split it. It's cool," she says in a tone that indicates she clearly doesn't think it's cool.

After the two of you pay the check, Annabelle drops you off at work so you can get your car. The next day, she is cold and distant, acting like all the good stuff that went on yesterday never happened. She acts like she's your boss and nothing else.

When it's lunchtime, you put your face in your hands and sigh. You're not hungry.
