You press the enter key.
The display goes blank for about ten seconds.
"Invalid," appears on the display.
A second later it is followed by: "Tampering detected. Releasing payload."
A slot opens up near the bottom of the device and rapidly releases a yellow gas that fills up the air all around the house in a matter of minutes. You don't even have a chance to run.
The moment you breathe in even a little of the toxin, it feels as though your entire insides are on fire. Your muscles refuse to work properly and you collapse, involuntarily twitching. You watch helplessly as the people around you also keel over with similar problems. You can faintly hear screams in the distance indicating the gas must be spreading far.
Blood drips from your nose as breathing becomes more, and more difficult over the course of the next few minutes. When it comes to the point where you are struggling to take your last breaths, you hear a voice whisper in your ear.
"I don't think that was the right code," it says, the voice from earlier when you signed that contract.
"Inadvertantly causing the death of all these people is the opposite of what I asked you... but I am not going to complain. Where you failed, a dozen may now succeed. I'll leave you here for a short time while I go speak to my new arrivals. I will return to collect you though, you can count on that. We have an eternity to spend together," the voice says, and you see the gas before you swirl about as if something invisible had passed through it.
You're unable to respond to point out that it only has you until your debt is paid. However, you get the feeling that mentioning that wouldn't help as you're certain the voice hadn't misspoke, that it actually did mean to keep you even after your debt is paid.
Your body dies, but you remain, a soul trapped within its' own body. You can still see the people around you suffering the same fate, you can hear the screams and paniced cries of others, but can do nothing but sit and wait for the voice to return and collect you.
Game Over: You failed to fulfill your end of the bargain and belong to whoever, or whatever, holds your contract now, and forever.
