You open up the package and find inside an electric dog collar. This keeps a dog from barking, but could probably just as easily shut a human up if it was put on them.
You hear Jane screaming at Jake from the front porch. You decide to sneak back into the house after she sends Jake to his room. You watch Jake walking to his room with his hands on his ears.
