Nightmare
From Create Your Own Story
The two of you wait. You wait, and wait and wait for like an eternity. You feel tense, and worried for the man. What if something happened to him? What if he got lost? Even you, who are a resident of this mansion, get lost sometimes, especially in the dark with little light. But he seems a bit well-versed with the house. A bit too knowledgeable, that is.
"What's taking him so long?" The woman complained, biting on her fingernails. You didn't notice at first, but they're painted in a light blue color. "Oh God, I hope nothing wrong happened to him." You find yourself sympathetically sighing.
The two of you waited for so long you sat down on the first few steps of the staircase, waiting for him. It has crossed your mind to suggest going down the first floor to wait, but you don't have any courage to do so.
Silence fill the whole mansion. You have never heard the mansion this quiet before, save for the ticking noise of the grandfather clock downstairs. The moon from the skylight illuminates the area with an eerie blue glow. You feel scared and nervous all of a sudden.
Footsteps coming from the hall behind you fills the quiet room. Your heart pounds in nervousness. Is he here now? Did he return?
Your companion stood up, and her audible gasp confirmed the worst of your fears.
"You..." she said, the fear in her voice obvious. "Is...is that..." She's shaking. She's really afraid. You wanted to stand up and turn around but her hand on your shoulder stops you.
"Yes, yes." A deep, male voice answered. That voice... "I believe I have underestimated your husband. He is quite competent with a gun. Kudos to him."
You can't stand, but you turn you neck around to see the legs of a man, standing in front of the woman. Judging from the smell of gunpowder, he's pointing a gun at you. Behind him is a sleeping child with his back turned to you.
It all happened in a flash.
She screamed, he taunted. She cried, he laughed. She begged, he bargained. You don't understand anything, so you stood up to protect her. A series of gunshots froze you to the spot. You feel arms wrapping around you, you falling down the stairs and warm blood pouring on your nightgown.
You don't understand anything.
"Come now child," the man says, his footsteps echoing across the room, approaching you. "Come to your father."
You're trapped under the weight of the dead woman who saved your life. Her fingers are intertwined tightly, holding you in a protective hug. You don't know if you could pry them open.
"Don't be afraid my dear," he said. He's closer, closer... "I won't hurt you." He has a gun on his hand, and her won't hurt you?
Do you:
