Mindy is gone and you decide to explore

You open your eyes and look at the sky. It is dark. You wonder how long you slept. The sky is dark blue and cloudless. The stars are brilliant in this clear, fairly unpolluted sky.
You sit up and say, "Mindy? Are you awake? It's probably time we headed back to our room."
Mindy doesn't answer. You look around. Mindy isn't there. Her towel is gone. Your towel and the room key are still there. You pick them up. You aren't concerned. Mindy probably woke up, saw you were asleep, and decided to go back to the room or went home with someone. She's done things like this before.
You stand up, pick up your stuff. You look around again. It's too dark to see clearly, but you can tell that the entire beach is empty. The boy and the couple from earlier are apparently long gone.
Some distance away, the beach ends in a rocky cliff that looks like it would be possible to climb it. Behind you, the jungle starts. There are two trails, you remember from earlier. One is the trail that takes you back to the hotel. It has one or two side trails, you remember. You have no idea where the other one goes.
You don't feel like going back to your room just yet. Perhaps you should explore.
