Hyde Road - Stay at the hotel

From Create Your Own Story

With the icy chill of the mountain wind it doesn't take you long to make up your mind and take a hurried dash across the road kicking up some of the snow with your tan boots, the powder clinging to your stockings. You hurry through the wind lobby into the spacious foyer.

It is warm inside, and there is a wood fire burning in the hearth. You stop, gather yourself, straightening the lapels on your coat. Soft music plays in background, you don't know the tune but you can't help but think is sounds familiar. Across the foyer is a reception desk where a man who must be in his late forties is standing, neatly dressed looking expectantly at you as you brush the fresh snow from your shoulders and take the scarf off from around your head.

To the left is carpeted staircase. A beautifully hand carved handrail snakes it's way upwards toward the rooms. The right side of the foyer has a set of glass doors, on the other side of which is a dining room, lounge and a small bar area. The last time you where here you had at least one too many drinks there and somewhat threw your name away. Although you were here with your then boyfriend, that relationship had burned bright but also it burned far too short. You think back on it, it was five years ago that you last stood in this foyer, then you were a student, with a rich man who wanted things from you that you were only to happy to give.

You grip your purse as you read the room rates displayed on a little brass board standing next to you. You are fairly certain it wasn't this price when you were last here, but then again you didn't pay then, not with money at any rate. A small sign above the reception counter says "Rooms Available". The gentleman behind the counter still waiting patiently although the slight furrow is developing on his brow is probably an indication that your lingering in the hallway is beginning to test him a little bit.

Perhaps you could go sit in the lounge and think it over a little, you aren't even sure if the limit on your card would be enough for the stop they would put on it when you check in. You think back of the motel for a moment. It's not the kind of establishment you had ever envisaged staying in whilst you were studying your English Major, your good looks had served you so well, this was not the kind of decision you had to make. Unfortunately being in the real world felt less glamorous, the pay certainly did, having discovered that while curvy hips and pretty smile will get you into an interview, the world of writing only really pays for what it knows, and three years of hard work and running for other people has yet to give you that chance to show what you are capable of.

You look at the clock standing on the concierge desk. It's 4:45, it felt later, there is still time to make up your mind.

Your meandering thoughts are interrupted, even a little startled, by the deep voice or the reception clerk who is clearly tired of waiting for you to cross the floor and introduce yourself. "Excuse Miss, is there something I can assist you with?"

You look up, and reply?
