Go back and go the other way

The sight is terrifying. Who knows what lies beyond this point? You turn on your heel and make your way quickly downhill, cutting through the grass and off the path to meet the track westwards. You have lost a lot of time by this diversion, however.
The path enters a wood. Sunlight disappears and you walk through a murky gloom. You walk for several hours uneventfully. This is land that was never settled or explored, and very few travel this way. In places, bushes and shrubs have grown over into the path.
Moving carefully forward, you use your sword to cleave the bushes. Your progress is quick, but silent. If there are any beasts nearby you should be able to wring their necks without them hearing you approach!
The you come to a fork in the road, still deep in the forest. Some has though to make a sign – perhaps as a guide, or perhaps as a warning. The way to the right is marked for Humpus. A left turn points to Alianna. Neither way seems the better trod. You will have to choose.
