Back to the Past- Try to Communicate

Taking a step forward you move towards the old man looking at you. When you do, several of the other villagers notice you and while at first they dismiss your presence, after taking another look at you the women begin to gather the children while the remaining men move closer to the oldest. After a few steps the older man raises his palm, urging you to stop. Since you are not socially inept you can feel the pressure in the mood of the villagers and obey. Afterwards the man speaks a few words that you can't understand, something that the man seems to notice.
Looking closely you start to notice interesting details about the villagers. They are all considerably shorter than you and all with no exception were either blonde or ginger, which contrasts with your black hair and large stature. This is strange because you were never a tall person, your weigh had always been around the average and yet compared to the whole village you felt like a tower.
The older man steps closer to you, your eyes paying attention to his hands in case he might be hiding something. When the man moves close you almost flinch at the horrible smell. Once more he tries to talk with you to no avail, you simply can't understand a word he says.
"I can't understand you."
You speak, however much like you can't understand him, he seems just as clueless about your language. After a few seconds the old man picks up a large stick and starts to draw pictures on the ground. They were random pictures with no real meaning behind them, but when he handed you the stick, you understood what he wanted. Using your best skills to draw the best stickmen of your life, you try to show them that you are lost and clueless. While you are not sure if the old man understood you, he did seem to cheer up with your drawings.
When the man cheers up, you feel the pressure in the mood vanish as some of the other villagers relax. Using his hands the old man calls you in to what you can only imagine to be his house, which also happened to be the biggest one. For the remainder of the day both you and the man keep drawing stickmen on the ground while trading words. You are not sure what let the man to like you so fast, but the man seemed to want you in his village since he gave you one of the empty cottages just for you.
During the night, with only a small fire in the middle of the village and the moonlight, you reflect on what you can do next.
