Your wife catches the idea, and insists on it. Patricia is against it, but easily agrees. And after the dinner you all return to your bedrooms.
You and Janine lay on the bed and try to work a little on your notebooks.
"I want to thank you," says Janine as she clings to you, "for being so good today." And she kisses you.
"Thanks," you answer. "If you let me say. It wasn't so hard. It's just lucky your father isn't here to bother us."
"I know..." She smiles. "...About the effect he has on you and other people. I just hope he can handle things without her."
"I only know that I can handle better without him," you answer.
