During the age of the 90's, gaming was pure, without bullshit of proving who the best was. People would just play games to enjoy themselves. Till MLG was invented. Now creating a diverse environment in a gamer's preference of play, there is a stream of elitism among all crowds.

Tournaments are the only way to tell if you are good or not. If you dont attend tournaments, you suck. Period. This only applies if you are on the internet however so if not, you're safe from the rabbid elitism. Tournaments are meant for skills period, despite massssssssssssive bannings in rules because everyone can't handle the heat of Akuma or Items...or stages. But it's about pure skill....maybe...
