January 2007 report

- January 11 meeting: Date of the event/events: January 11, 2007 This was Spark's first meeting this semester and there was no consensus. However, possible approach points that were decided included construction sites, local schools and city schools.
- SIPCOT survey: Date of the event/events: January 14, 2007 This was conducted by Anirbit along with Vipul. It gave Spark the lead to CCCL Hexaware.
- The debate rages: Date of the event/events: January 20, 2007 This was an informal and long debate between Spark members about what routes Spark should take.
- CCCL Hexaware: the project begins: Date of the event/events: January 21, 2007 This was conducted by Bodhayan, Ravitej, Jayanth and Vipul. Spark members talked to the Project Office who promised to offer full assistance in any educational programme we may offer. We were asked to come next Sunday to address the workers and the children.
- January 23 meeting: Date of the event/events: January 23, 2007 This meeting was to decide Spark's future directions in light of the recent developments with CCCL Hexaware. We decided to shelve local schools and city schools and concentrate on CCCL Hexaware for the time being. A number of other points for further investigation/discussion were identified.
- CCCL Hexaware: further data collection: Date of the event/events: January 27, 2007 This was conducted by Bodhayan, Bhanukiran, Anirbit and Vipul. We got names of many interested students and their parents. We promised to return the next day (January 28) to get to know the children and to teach them).
- CCCL Hexaware: first interaction with kids: Date of the event/events: January 28, 2007 Bodhayan, Ravitej, Arnab and Vipul spent a two-hour session with the kids teaching them some basics and getting an idea of their level of knowledge and interest.
- Discussion with Balaji Sampath: Date of the event/events: January 28, 2007 Padma talked to Dr. Balaji Sampath, who works with AID India, telling him about our plans and asking him for suggestions and guidance. He said that AID India would be willing to offer both orientation and help in the form of volunteers.
- January 30 meeting: Date of the event/events: January 30, 2007 In this meeting, we allocated responsibilities for actioning on the book-buying, fund-collection, AID-India, and other fronts. We also discussed the controversial issue of volunteer payment.
