Revision as of 01:51, 5 February 2007 by Vipulnaik (Talk | contribs)

Spark is a fledgling social work/social service group at Chennai Mathematical Institute. The conception and name are due to Bodhayan Roy, a first-year student at CMI. Currently, around 20 CMI students are actively involved with Spark activities.

Activities

Current acitivities: CCCL Hexaware

CMI students are currently working on a project to educate children of construction workers at the CCCL Hexaware site. There are currently about 20 children there who seem to be interested, and the current plan is to teach them on Sundays. The 20 includes about 8-10 Telugu children, 8-10 Oriya cum Bengali children and 2 from Jharkhand. An idea of the recent activities can be obtained by looking at the January 2007 report.

An alternative path for Spark, viz teaching at local schools, has been shelved for now. Teaching in city schools has also been scrapped.

The currently scheduled activity is the January 30 meeting. Agenda for this is available at: Agenda for January 30 meeting.

Past activities

The main activity of Spark members in August-December 2006 was educating the children of construction workers involved in building the CMI hostel. Check out Educating the kids: the story for more details.
