Editing Smogon

[http://www.smogon.com Smogon] is the biggest competitive Pokemon website on the Internet. 

It is usually the first stop for people looking for Pokemon movesets for any generation as the analysis on the main site cover every generation and every metagame, and many of the movesets on the analysis become the "standard" sets for the sole reason that they are Smogon.

It also caters for the general posters needs, with general and entertainment sections accompanied by "Firebot", which is basically the premise for CBC's SPAM!, except it is much more controlled. It also features the only decent Competitive Pokemon Tutoring system on the net, and the community are free to submit competitive guides for the main site as long as they are approved.


== Criticism ==

Smogon has recieved a lot of criticism from other Pokemon sites and forums over the years and most of it is somewhat uncalled for.


[[SPPf]], the biggest online Pokemon Community, has - for one reason or another - long declared itself as a "rival" of Smogon. While the webmaster, Serebii, has not officialy delcared this, there is a long running bitterness between the members of SPPf towards Smogon. However, Smogoners rarely even mention SPPf, and a running gag in the forums when SPPf is mentioned is to say something along the lines of "getting banned from SPPf? Welcome to last year."

Serebii himself however has come under a lot of fire from the competitive sides of Pokemon (who, of course, usually congregate at Smogon). The general lack of control or lack of interest from mods in the CRMT sections of the forum has been pointed out at several times, and the sanity and good rates are few and far between with control usually placed into the hands of unofficial regulars who often find it amusing to troll the forums stupider members (e.g, [[MistyLover]]).

Serebii's "Pokemon of the Week" section that "delves into competitive battling" has been cited as "misleading to the masses of competitive battlers who find there way to the bigger SPPf before Smogon [as many people often do]" and "poorly written trash".

Serebii's own Pokemoning abilities have been the sources of attack after he battled the admin of Smogon, chaos, and lost dreadfully - after using tactics including Double Team and Hyper Beam.

This of course has sparked reactions from Serebii's legions of "loyal followers" (aka asskissers) to hold Smogon in the regards of "the bad guys". 



Truth be told however, Smogon has become the source of discussion in smaller forums from the lesser knwon to the unknown, particularly since the release of Diamond and Pearl.

Smogon has been dubbed "overrated" by both those with and without grudges towards the site, and that term has been aimed particularly towards the staff of Smogon.

Some of the 4th gen analysis are often held in poor regard in terms of EVs and even sets, which again could be cited as "misleading".

The Smogon tier list is also ripe with debate at the present time, with "mockeries" such as BL Rhyperior being included in the list.
