Leon Belmont

From Canonwars

Character Name: Leon Belmont

Game/Series: Castlevania: Lament of Innocence

Age: 23

Birthday: August 5th

Background: The year is 1094, and for Leon Belmont the crusades are waging. Baron Leon Belmont a successful member of the knighthood leads an undefeated army along side his childhood fried Mathias Cronqvist, who serves as his brilliant tactician ( who's strategies are second to none ). One night, upon returning home from a victorious campaign, Leon and Mathias both learn that Mathias wife, Elisabetha had taken ill and died while they were away. Mathias's grief was profound and as such he became sick and bedridden. This left Leon to lead the company along and despite Mathias's absence he kept their company victorious.

In between Elizabetha's death and Leon's constant traveling between home and the battlefield, Leon's home land ( Wachallia ) and the forests surrounding his lands are being plagued by creatures of the night. One dark night in particular, Mathias crawls from his sick bed to tell him that his betrothed Sarah has been kidnapped by a Vampire named Walter who lives in the forest known as Eternal Night. Unable to convince the church to help him, he gives up his title and sword to go and find Sarah himself.

Upon entering the forest, Leon is thrust into Walter's realm. Weaponless and clearly not thinking ahead of himself ( just what is he planning on fighting with? ) he comes across a man, Rinaldo. Rinaldo informs Leon that Walter is playing a game, one which he enjoys from time to time. Rinaldo then bequeaths to Leon a whip enchanted with the power of alchemy and infuses his gauntlet with similar powers.

Leon journeys into the Castle where he battles through seven different levels and defeats seven various guardians just so he can unlock the Walter's chambers. Once inside, he fights Walter for the first time and rescues Sarah. However, things are never that simple. Upon Leon and Sarah's arrival at Rinaldo's shop in the forest, Leon learns that his beloved has been tainted and her soul has been doomed to forever walk the night. Sarah not wishing to suffer that fate nor let her life go to waste implores Leon to allow her to give up her soul to the very whip Rinaldo gave him earlier. Combining her condemned soul willingly to the whip, would complete it's transformation into the ultimate vampire killing weapon. Leon begrudgingly agrees and with his own hand he kills Sarah and seals her soul within the whip. This is the whip that will later be passed down through the Belmont line, it appears in every game and it's name is, Vampire Killer.

Leon wracked with grief, collects himself and heads back into the castle to face Walter a second time. This time to kill him and seek revenge for Sarah. He faces Walter and as with most anything else he wins. After defeating the evil vampire, the true nature of the plot is revealed - the kidnapping of Sara was all orchestrated by Mathias. Angry at God for the death of his wife, Mathias sold his soul and embraced the side of the vampire - he used Leon to kill Walter so he could claim the holy artifact, the Ebony Stone, as his own. Mathias then flees, hiding out in other countries under assumed names, slowly working in the underworld and emerging to become Dracula, Lord of the Vampires. Leon swears that, until the end of time, the Belmont clan will hunt the night and defeat him where ever he may show up.

A man obsessed, Leon leaves the forest and returns to his home ( the only thing he has left ). Here he continues his training and uses what resources he still has left ( ie: money ) to try and follow up on as many rumors about Mathias's appearances over the realm as he can find. That is in fact, how he arrives in this new world through the nexus gate. Now, in this new world, Leon is very confused and lost. He was directed to Purgatory upon his arrival and with nothing left to do he tries his best to get by, but he remains vigilant for signs of Mathias who he is sure is lurking somewhere in this new world.

Personality: Leon is very much a typical Leo - ambitious, courageous, dominant, strong willed, positive, independent, and self-confident there is no such a word as doubt in his vocabulary. To put it simply Leon is honest to a fault. He's the type of young man who knows what he wants, what needs to be done and goes out and does just that while plowing through any and all obstacles that stand in the way. Leon is also extremely idealistic, especially when it comes to religion. God is very important part of his life, having grown up he's the type of boy who goes to church at least once a day and prays more than once a day. Being the virtuous type Leon doesn't hesitate to put himself at risk for the sake of others, especially those he cares about.

While Leon is intelligent in his own right, he can come off as being rather "blonde" when it comes to certain things. He is only out shined by his best friend, Mathias Cronqvist. The two have known each other since they were small children and together have excelled through their schooling to make a formidable duo. Where Leon fails to grasp Math and Sciences, Mathias shines. The same goes for saying that where Mathias lacks in physical lessons such as swordplay and sparring, Leon excels. Together they form an unbeatable team.

Leon's faults lie intermingled with his virtues ... more often than not being honest to a fault can cause a lot of people to get angry with you. Leon also has a good amount of pride which has yet to be bruised. Leon knows he's good at what he does and can come off as being slightly snobbish. He also trusts too deeply in the people around him, so deeply in fact that he can be blinded to the real truths. He has a hard time grasping that people he knows, cares and loves for may be up to no good. It also may cause him to over look other things or simple deny the obvious truth. The only thing more sacred to him than God is his friends, Mathias, Elisabetha, and Sara especially. Without them Leon would not be half the man he was today. Which is why the loss of them has crippled him greatly.

Today as it stands, Leon is hardly anything like the man he was a year ago. The night he lost everything to Mathias's scheming was the day he lost his self. He's a bit more cynical and not as trusting. He tends to be a bit more abrasive towards those people he thinks are working with Mathias. He's hell bent on finding his best friend and putting and end to his evil deeds. All in all, Leon still is a good person, he's just been shaken from his path by some very tragic events.

Leon's play by is Heath Ledger from A Knight's Tale, and I by no means am Heath, Leon, nor to place ownership upon them.
