Channel/DarkAbode

From Caelwiki

The #DarkAbode is an IRC channel that acts as a domain and dwelling place for the god Falerin.

The #DarkAbode also serves as the primary in character location of Truth Seekers on Caelestia.net. Roleplay in the #DarkAbode is more freeform then that of the Epic but some considerations do apply.

  1. Do not God Mode - There exist very specific delineations of power with in the abode. The only God or God like characters that exist are under the control of Caelestia.net, Artix Entertainment, or ancillary RPG staff. As a general rule it may be assumed that those who have some sort of channel power also have a reflected increase in potential in character as well.
  2. Do not bunny the characters of others - Allow others to control their own actions you should not speak for them.
  3. Staff may bunny your characters or directly mimic you at anytime. - You allow upon joining the abode that Game Staff may directly control your character even against your will and in a manner you consider inconsistent.
  4. Consistency in character is important.
  5. Violence in the Abode may be met with swift reprisals.
  6. Do not disrupt the enjoyment of others.
  7. All RP that effects the official RP's in any manner is subject to staff approval either by being directly monitored, approved by a staff member, or sent to the character submissions address for approval. The sole exception to this rule are RP's that have no lasting physical effect and are purely social in nature. If in doubt staff can and will require submission for clarification. This rule is subject to staff discretion.
  8. Any gains of power while in the abode fall under the discretion of the staff as for their acceptability. Any such gains made out of the abode must be approved by them to be consider valid RPs at all. You are advised that attempting to circumvent this or to powergame in any fashion will result in reprisals. Powergaming is unwelcome in this setting.

Also, current trends should be well noted.

<Falerin> 1) The basic premise of the RP is that the universe is falling apart in a war among cosmic beings well beyond your ken. There is no hope whatsoever of surviving that war solitarily.

<Falerin> 2) PCs that are in violation of 1, are subject to the natural consequences of their actions. Given the fact that all of the player characters reside in a single domicile. It stands to reason that those tolerated there must be trusted at least partially. Anyone violating 1 would not be trusted.

<Falerin> 3) Since Dhe Ehmn and Gods are among those residing therein. PC's in violation as per 2) are subject to the full wrath of those beings as untrusted possible spies. This is a natural consequence of the paranoia of the setting.

<Falerin> So if you are looking to submit the dark shadowy loner full of angst and wanting to be more inactive then Benny the mute

<Falerin> or worse are hoping to play a villain

<Falerin> Do not bother

<Falerin> Villains will be NPC controlled only

Regarding character creation:

As the Abode has grown, so have the number of characters who wish to play in the abode. As personal storylines become entangled in the abode it can at times become difficult to follow what is going on and why. For this reason it several rules now govern character creation in the abode.

New and Improved! As of September 14, 2008 we are issuing a clear. Any and all requests prior for ability lists, character questionnaires, or logs are revoked. All character slots are cleared. Questionnaires and ability lists that have been accepted in the past remain accepted, however if a player does not wish a character which had been occupying a free slot to return, that slot is once again open. Also, any character played within the last 2 months of the clear date and having a least half a dozen appearances now also qualifies for grandfathering in addition to the prior grandfathering rules remaining in tact. Inquiries of status can be made of any of the GM staff.

Further Notes As of November 5, 2008 the nature of the game has changed. War is upon the characters and no one is safe. The need for a system to reasonably measure combat actions has been implemented and even free slot characters must provide a numerical set of values in order to participate. Ability sheets are also highly recommended, but not necessary now required. Please view the page detailing Character Statistics in order to most accurately represent your character.

  1. New players may insert one character which we will be more lax on. This "free slot" character does not require the detailed questionaire and has some leeway in exceeding the starting point distributions without providing lengthy explanations.
  2. Characters existing prior to the implementation of the new statistics system are grandfathered and have more leeway in point distributions.
  3. It is now necessary to complete a Character Questionnaire and gain approval for any character beyond your first in the Abode who do not fall into any of the above categories. The supplementary Character Ability List and Character Statistics list are also now required.
  4. As it is difficult to concretely verify that users from a single household are in fact discrete users, they shall be treated for purposes of the original character rule as not being so. In essence, if you share a connection with another individual, that gives you only a single IP address or hostname, only the first individual will be able to create a free slot character. All additional users will be required to complete the questionnaire process.
  5. An individual's free slot can be again made free by completing a questionnaire for the character already occupying it This allows for characters to be built and established within the confines of the RP itself rather than prior.
  6. Characters declared lastingly dead by a GM, or taken wholly under GM control, clear the free slot for a new character. In addition, an additional free slot may be granted by a GM at their discretion when events warrant.
  7. If at any time either due to grandfathering or GMs' discretion, a character has multiple free slots filled, then all characters in this grouping must have questionnaires approved in order to clear the free slot.
  8. The GM's may at their discretion accept an alternate form of background history for a character such as a completed character sheet with detailed background story or alternate questionnaire. However such is likely to be scrutinized far more heavily and should not be considered a shortcut to approval.
  9. Characters approved under the above rule (8) shall be treated as fully approved and will not consume a free slot.
  10. We tend to be quite flexible if we can be sure that your characters exceptional nature is reasonable and that you are not simply attempting to godmode minmax or otherwise engage in munchkinism. However, characters whose natures are sufficiently extraordinary as to in any manner bend these rules or adapt them must always be precleared through channel staff, and will require more thorough and detailed explanations.

Restricted Characters and Players

If a player or character has sufficient history of powergaming in a fashion the channel staff consider unacceptable that player or character may be placed on restricted status.

  1. A restricted player may not create ANY additional characters without a questionnaire nor may they play any of their previous characters who lacks a character questionnaire.
  2. A restricted character may not gain any new knowledge, powers, or abilities without expressly declaring the intention to try to gain such abilities and going through NPC or PC training to gain those abilities with a chance of failure in any such attempt.

A players characters may be restricted without restricting the player and vice versa. Though both may be applied if deemed appropriate.
