The Higher Passion Wrestling (HPW) Underground Championship is a backyard wrestling Hardcore Championship as recognized by Higher Passion Wrestling. It was first awarded on September 3, 2011 to Lance Manion.

Background

The history of the HPW Underground Championship starts with the HTR Underground Championship. HTR was a federation that ran between early 2008 to early 2009. When HTR closed, UWE started in it's place, run by James "Grimm" Blackwell. Blackwell debuted the UWE Underground Championship at it's event "Open Wounds". UWE eventually closed in June 2010 with only one match contested for the Underground Title. Throughout the history of the two titles that preceded it, Paul Steel was the most prominent holder of the title. After UWE's last event, Sean Steel announced Higher Passion Wrestling for 2011. When the federation started, no announcements were made for the Underground Championship. Then, when Skull Jr. and Lance Manion confirmed themselves for HPW's show "Homecoming" on September 3, Lance was booked against Moustapha Akkad for the new HPW Underground Championship. Lance, a wrestler for Total Hardcore Wrestling and the Michigan Wrestling Association, won the Title, leaving the belt outside of HPW. One month later at "HPW/NBYWA 7: Hell-O-Ween", Lance lost the title in a triple threat match to Cody Douglas. Akkad was also in the match.
