History

Origination

The title was introduced during the GBYWN Promo Challenge in 2008, where Bridgeview Wrestling Association's (BWA) Shooter recorded an internet video for the challenge appearing with a self-made makeshift championship belt and proclaiming himself the first champion. The title was thus, delegated to the Great Lakes Territory to be defended in that geographical area BWA is located in.

Factually in 2007, Cassius Chaos was the first to appear with the idea of a community championship designed to represent the website when he declared himself in an online promo as GBYWN Champion, although not sanctioned as legitimate. Chaos was slated to defend the title against "The Cheese Kid" Steven Alvarez, but the match never came to execution. Inexplicably after absence of Chaos, the title was relocated to Backyard Kid Wrestling where Alvarez claimed it to the community's acknowledgement. Circa 2009, two top championships became confusingly unnecessary and the GBYWN Title was converted into the GBYWN West Coast Championship. The World Heavyweight Title, however, remained the top tier community title, despite the fact that the title holders are not "heavyweights".
