2KW (formerly 2000 Wrestling) is an independent park action wrestling federation based in Manhattan, New York and founded in 1999 by Vinny Mac, Kid Krazy, and SyNN, who is in predominant ownership while it operates under management department, Divided World Entertainment. Limitedly known, 2KW has developed a significant consideration as a topflight federation with an open-circuit approach to all backyard wrestling practitioners.

The federation name was previously abridged to solely 2KW, a three-initials symbolism left to trademark the hard work and dedicated labor given towards it. Increasingly gaining new fandom, it is known for its mix of various sized performers, its focus on technical, puroresu, lucha libre and high-risk spot wrestling and its extreme sports-like shoot wrestling intensity usually defying the stereotypical reckless hardcore nature of backyard wrestling.

Although 2KW Wrestling is not presented in a "backyard", it is linked ambiguously to backyard wrestling for its pre-existing popularity.

History

Origin

In 1999, 2KW initiated as an obscure federation in Manhattan, New York under the foundation of Vinny Mac, SyNN, and Kid Krazy in their youth. The federation streamed through alternate backyard wrestling leagues seeking potential for their roster. Presented inaugurally as a frivolous product, they featured regional programming on the New York non-profit public access station known as the Manhattan Neighborhood Network, fortunately garnering wide Manhattan viewership and abundant positive reviews via emails. Eventually they were prompted to switch direction of 2KW to take a rather serious tone, acquiring Jackal, Reaper, Grifter and Saylo in 2000 to enlarge the roster while many else followed.

They were, for a certain period, also associated with the Ghetto Wrestling Alliance (GWA) in 2001, sharing championships before splitting off into their own entity. The GWA Hardcore World Championship was created as an anti-championship to rival the GWA World Championship for those who storyline felt their talent was further prominent than that particular title. The belt, after won by SyNN, was renamed the 2KW World Championship in 2001 along with the GWA/2KW Television Championship.

They proceeded to receive countless publicity including two UPN news articles about the show with the first article trashing backyard wrestling, but due to positive reviews a follow-up story was conducted to report how contrasting 2KW was to the stereotypes of the practice. Footage of 2KW also appeared on the Best of Backyard Wrestling and even on Maxim Magazine's B-There Volume 2 DVDs.

Divided World Entertainment

Around 2003, 2KW came to the management of Divided World Entertainment, an off-screen operations department designed to refreshen the federation. The first scripted act of control was vacating the 2KW World Championship from Jae Peso and from there the management governed and came to organized conflict with those within. It was initially led by Grifter as the first representative in charge. Eventually 2KW owner SyNN, FNB, Scythe and Jamal Jackson became members to form a management team, who all work cohesively behind the scenes in planning events, concepts and scripted storylines with SyNN giving the final approval.

For on-screen purposes, Jamal Jackson was recognized as the Representative who was voted against Dubb C in an 2008 poll on 2KW's Myspace to become re-elected before a retired Grifter shortly took over in early 2009. The job requirements are to direct instructions and enforce management regulations.

Rising Popularity

2KW premiered on YouTube in 2006 picking up from their 2006 season and reached a significant height in their 2008 season as the federation began spreading and its name garnered more popularity among the wrestling community in contrast to previous years. Their subscriptions and channel views visibly and effectively escalated on YouTube, this, during the heated feud between FNB and William Black acquiring more notoriety for the federation. They had also repatched their alliance back with community Global Backyard Wrestling News (GBYWN) the same year after leaving it, which appeared to be of extra support and joined with the Georgia Wrestling Circuit (GWC), backyard wrestling's biggest federation alliance on YouTube.

Some regards for 2KW coming in claim that its a "spotty" league, and while this may hold some truth, there are workers which display their technical ingenuity. Others state that "their moves are inventive, and they are brilliantly entertaining", extending opinions as far as to bring comparisons to professional wrestling companies and calling it better.

2KW Saturday and other events

2KW Tuesday used to be a weekly weekday event along with 2KW Saturday which the federation taped their shows on in a Manhattan, New York neighborhood until 2KW Tuesday was discontinued in 2007 in preference for 2KW Saturday which also crosses over with supercards such as Divided We Stand and Just Another Night.

With this show, every Saturday 2KW would host wrestling events at varying park/outside places since they began and most recently at a park neighborhood community called the Little Flower Playground taking place around typically 2-8 pm provided there is no precipitation. 2KW also holds several members on a roster which constantly fluctuates against storyline wishes and organization.

2KW has been involved with wrestling events outside of 2KW and/or New York City.

• On April 22, 2007, 2KW held a supershow, with Brooklyn based fedederation Xtreme Street Wrestling.

• On June 30, 2007, 2KW held a supershow, Wrestlefezt, in Coal Township, Pennsylvania.

• On December 23, 2007, 2KW travelled to 3 Count Wrestling's locality in Norwalk, Connecticut in the end of their 2007 season, where they joined 3CW in a 2KW/3CW Joint Show.

• On February 3, 2008, 2KW performers wrestled at a supershow held by Insane Backyard Wrestling.

• On February 28, 2009, 2KW held a supershow with RWA and NAW in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

Trivia

• Despite that 2KW began in 1999, any video footage of the organization had been released online after their 2006 application for a YouTube account, which picked up production from its 2006 period. A compilation of clips featuring Reaper is the only evidential internet video material citing some of their past. Videos of the federation (some also made by fans) are available on other video-sharing websites and even streamed on Justin.tv as of 2008.
