HB Journal for Nov 23, 1939
From Brackbillwiki
This was Thanksgiving day in most of the United States due to the Proclamation of Pres. Roosevelt.
I was thankful to stay in bed a few extra hours this morning.
We went to church before going over home for a big Thanksgiving dinner. Marksberrys & Aunt Nan were there beside our family.
We practiced target shooting and went hunting some.
After a short supper we sat around & played "up Jenkins" till it was bedtime, then went home.
Commentary
1939 was the first year that Thanksgiving was fixed for the fourth Thursday of November, at the request of merchants who wanted a longer Christmas shopping season.
