For patrons doing extensive research on NYC history and government, they have a number of useful records, including

-City charters back to 1621 -Green Books from 1918 to present (we have many of these in the decks) -Minutes of governing bodies back to the 1700s -Board of Estimate proceedings 1879-1989 -Publications of defunct city agencies -Parks Dept. annual reports back to 1870 -NYC budgets back to 1854 -Mayor's Executive Orders: 1958 to present -Mayor's Press Releases: 1954 to present. They also have vertical files with clippings up until the last couple of years, original campaign literature, biographical files on city officials and other well-known New Yorkers, OLD (but not recent) information on civil service exams and other civil service information, and a place name file. The Municipal Archives, which has vital records, census information, city directories, records about the administration of criminal justice from 1684 to 1966, and photos of every house and building in the city at about 1940, is located at 31 Chambers Street, Room 103, and is open M-Th 9-4:30 and Fri. 9-1.
