  • continuing on the amino acids of Class 3: Positively Charged Amino Acids

Arginine

  • Free arginine functions in the urea cycle.
    • The urea cycle gets rid of nitrogen
    • 70 micromolar is poisonous
      • Ammonium, sulfur and nitrogen were so key but are now toxins...hmm....

Histidine

  • The most versatile of all amino acids.
  • Has special Nitrogen because it is pronated at pKa 6.1 which is a legitimate biological pH at which it could have it's Hydrogen dissociated.
  • Histidine can help with acid-base catalysis
  • Base of purine and pyrimidine
  • Can be used to protect porpherins from one side, though now with e- cloud.
