- continuing on the amino acids of Class 3: Positively Charged Amino Acids
Arginine
- Free arginine functions in the urea cycle.
- The urea cycle gets rid of nitrogen
- 70 micromolar is poisonous
- Ammonium, sulfur and nitrogen were so key but are now toxins...hmm....
Histidine
- The most versatile of all amino acids.
- Has special Nitrogen because it is pronated at pKa 6.1 which is a legitimate biological pH at which it could have it's Hydrogen dissociated.
- Histidine can help with acid-base catalysis
- Base of purine and pyrimidine
- Can be used to protect porpherins from one side, though now with e- cloud.
