My Dream
From Aryez
Book 62 of the Marfat
62: My Dream
1. On a dark, stormy night
2. filled with the booms of thunder
3. and the flashes of lightning,
4. I fell asleep, ill at ease; my head
5. hurt as though someone were banging on it as though it were a drum. The
6. mercy of God lifted me up that night and sent to me
7. a dream. At first, I
8. saw glimpses of my childhood and
9. my past- good things: people I loved,
10. places I frequented, things I liked to do, all images of
11. peace, kindness, love, happiness. I journeyed through the depths of hell and heaven and viewed all of the afterlife. Then my soul was swept
12. up to the highest place in heaven where it came to rest
13. in the center of a circle of all the great prophets, with
14. God himself as their head. They all proclaimed with disapproval:
15. “look at what mankind has done to make a mockery of everything
16. good we taught them.” Then they showed me
17. the suffering, famine, war, and disease everywhere, everywhere, caused
18. by men and inflicted upon other men. It was enough to throw me into
19. a fit of hopelessness and despair. “Is there hope?” I asked. They all
20. replied “Yes, we will show you how.” But they provided me no
21. further explanation. Instead they sent me back, my whole body
22. in pain, my heart in anguish. So I lay, withering in pain for
23. who knows how long. But the only way I was healed and made
24. to feel at peace was to think about the one I love most in the whole
25. world. She is like a balm to my heart, despite our quarrels, for her
26. goodness and kindness inspired in me a love which cured all of my
27. pain and anguish. She is more myself than I am, our souls are but
28. two aspects of the same soul. Let frost or fire come between us, nobody
29. can separate us. Our souls will always been connected, always tied
30. no matter how far our bodies are from each other. Her sorrows are my sorrows,
31. her happiness, mine. When she feels pain, I feel pain. When she feels joy,
32. I feel joy. As long as she is, I am, and when she is not, I am not. My love
33. for others is like the leaves on the tress, which change with time in fall and spring,
34. which fall and die, and grow, lovely but swift,
35. but my love for my love is like a rock,
36. firm, unchanging, a shield to misery, not beautiful in the short-term, but
37. the long-term support necessary for love. I am my love, she is me, we
38. are like one being. If all people even felt a tenth of what I felt for my love,
39. the world would be a much better place. So I thought, as so my heart and soul
40. rested at peace. And so I realized God’s message to be that love is the balm
41. and the cure for the world’s problems. A bit of caring and kindness, a show
42. of sweetness can wash away the deepest hatred and sins. Love is the key to the
43. hope that all men seek. What is love? Love can be anything nice, be it
44. romance, caring, kindness, solidarity, peace, brotherhood, parenthood, friendship,
45. anything, everything. A little love and kindness can go a long way, for love
46. can make the world a better place and do things hate, revenge, and war never can.
47. Trust in love, for it will make a difference on any scale. Dream about life, dream
48. about a better future, dream about hope, they will come, they will come, God has
49. promised, he really has, and it can really make a difference.
Commentary: This is the most unique book. It claims that most people in the world, including those who claim to be religious, are not actually living a good religious life and would shock the prophets if they returned. The majority of this poem is a poem about love and hope; the poem both shows how humans should love each other [romantically] and symbolically how humans should love God. Finally, the book narrates a mysterious occurrence known as “the journey” or “the dream,” in which the founder’s spirit was lifted to the great beyond to meet with God and the prophets and view the world of the afterlife.
