Commentary: This book lists the most important prophets (religious figures in human history, all of whom were great people inspired by God; some may have even been avatars of God). These are not the only prophets or wise human beings (any wise person is a prophet), but these are the most important, influential, and closest to God. Sixteen prophets are listed (some may count eighteen if the contemporary figures of Anya and Aryeztur are included). The prophets listed (in no particular order; a key attribute of each prophet is described; these attributes are by no means mutually exclusive) are:
• Abraham: Jewish prophet, teacher of loyalty.
• Moses: Jewish prophet, giver of laws.
• Jesus: Christian prophet, teacher of love.
• Muhammad: Islamic prophet, teacher of brotherhood.
• Zoroaster: Zoroastrian prophet, differentiator of good and evil.
• Mani: Manichean prophet, describer of the soul.
• Krishna: Hindu prophet, teacher of duty.
• Ram: Hindu prophet, teacher of commitment.
• Nanak: Sikh prophet, teacher of unity.
• Mahavir Jain: Jain prophet, teacher of peace.
• Buddha: Buddhist prophet, pathfinder of happiness.
• Lao Tzu: Taoist prophet, teacher of harmony.
• Mencius: Confucian prophet, giver of justice.
• Confucius: Confucian prophet, teacher of ethics.
• Baha’u’llah: Baha’i prophet, teacher of equality.
