The manor was granted by Henry II to Walter de Clifford, the father of his favourite mistress Rosamund, in 1bout 1190

First mentioned in 1233 when confiscated by Henry III after 3rd Walter de Clifford brebelled against him.

An oval ringwork, with a bailey to the North. The wall and walls were probably rebuild in the 1220s.
