Galrick is a person and NPC that joins the player in the quest to find the Temple of Hope. He attacks every turn, how many other guests do that? He attacks with the same element as the weapon that the player currently has equipped, although it's unknown if he also attacks with Element X. However, he doesn't help the player against the first monster they fight. Also, if the player messes up on the runes enough, he will give them the order 1 rune at a time, although this takes a very long time and isn't recommended.

What Happens To Him Once You Start the Temple Quest

While he is still there when the player finds the temple, from part 2 on they can bring different guests along with them, all of whom specialize in the weakness of the element the player is battling against monsters of. So basically, while Galrick can stay, there are better alternatives once you find the temple.
