Perceiver

Perceivers are humans with the abilities of prophecy, second sight, and/or Truth Sense. According to research done by Visignis over several thousand years, approximately 1 in 250,000 people have Perceiver powers strong enough to use on a conscious level.

Visignis was the first person to coin the term 'Perceiver' approximately 7,000 years ago. Different Perceivers have had the abilities over the years, but the most powerful documented Perceiver was Drake the Powerful, a human who lived approximately 5,000 years ago. Drake was gifted with all three powers of perception, and was a powerful as an experienced adult Perceiver at the age of thirteen.
[edit] Powers and Abilities
Perceivers, by definition, are humans. While it may be possible for other races to have the abilities associated with Perceivers, they would not technically be called Perceivers. Some Perceivers are prophetic, some have second sight (the ability to see ghosts, demons, or angels which are invisible to other humans) and some have Truth Sense, an innate ability to predict (sometimes with 100% accuracy) the truthfulness of any statement. Some Perceivers have two or all three of these abilities. Upon his extended documentation, Visignis divided the abilities of Perceivers into four levels.
[edit] Level 1 (Beginner)
Young Perceivers usually start displaying Level 1 abilities starting at the beginning of the teenage years. If a child or teenager has Level 1 Perceiver abilities, it is often possible to advance the powers to Level 2 or even Level 3.
- Prophecy - A first-level Perceiver with prophecy is able to answer questions asked of them with a fair amount of certainty.
- Second Sight - A first-level Perceiver with second sight is able to see ghosts and other ethereal spirits, and communicate with them in dreams.
- Truth Sense - Level 1 Perceivers can ask questions and tell with a fair amount of certainty the truthfulness of the response. It is fairly commmon for Perceivers to have two or even all three abilities at Level 1.
[edit] Level 2 (Standard)
Most adult Perceivers are at Level 2. With consistent training, it is possible to advance a Level 2 ability (or occasionally more than 1 ability) to level 3.
- Prophecy - Perceivers at Level 2 can answer questions asked them with consistent certainty, and can predict major future events, if only vaguely.
- Second Sight - Level 2 Perceivers can see and communicate with ghosts in a waking state, and can see hidden angels or demons in waking and speak to them in dreams.
- Truth Sense - Level 2 Perceivers with Truth Sense can tell with consistent certainty if a response to a question is true, and can sense half-truths with a fair amount of certainty. It is rare for a Perceiver to have three Level 2 abilities, but having one stronger sense or sometimes two is not unheard of.
[edit] Level 3 (High-Level)
A Level 3 ability is rare, and having 2 is even more unusual. Only a handful of Perceivers have had all three abilities at Level 3 over the millennia.
- Prophecy - A prophetic High-Level Perceiver can predict future events without the focusing aid of a question, and are able to answer questions with 100% accuracy.
- Second Sight - High-Level Perceivers with second sight can see and communicate with ghosts and hidden angels and demons on a conscious level.
- Truth Sense - A High-Level Perceiver with Truth Sense can sense a lie, whether it is a statement or an answer to a question.

The only Perceiver known to reach Level 4 abilities is Drake the Powerful; all three of his Perceiver powers were at Level 4 once he reached his potential.
- Prophecy - Level 4 prophecy allows to answer any question about any time, past, present or future, with 100% certainty (given an entity does not affect the future with their actions; if the time stream is radically altered the prediction may prove a half-truth or entirely false).
- Second Sight - Level 4 second sight allows a Perceiver to see and talk to ghosts, hidden demons and angels, and use Truth Sense on the ethereal entities they communicate with. With great concentration and effort, a short audience with God is possible. In modern time Drake, long dead as a human but returned to Etrah as a fallen angel, has powerful enough Second Sight to compensate for his blindness which was caused by a battle with Pyrodeus' Forge that involved a fireball as bright as a red sun.
- Truth Sense - Level 4 Truth Sense allows the Perceiver to sense the truth of statements with 100% accuracy, including knowing what parts of a half-truth are true and which parts are false. A combination of Level 4 Truth Sense and second sight allows the Perceiver to see the souls of individuals at will, sensing by colors and feelings sensed the intentions of the individual.
[edit] Drawbacks
In the presence of large bastions of power, Perceiver powers can become muddled or inaccessible. Also, Perceivers cannot use their powers to perceive the actions of other Perceivers. Trying to do so results in a headache and a bright flash of light within the head of the Perceiver.
