Add Character

From Ahspedia

Here's a simple tutorial on how to add a character to this wiki site.

Step 1

Copy the template below. The first two lines (Char creator and page creator) are optional.

''Character created by: CREATORNAME - CREATIONDATE''

Page created by: ~~~~

[[Category:Characters]]
[[Category:AHS/ASA]]
[[Category:Grade_X]]
[[Category:Year_of_Birth_XXXX]]

Step 2

Surf to: http://editthis.info/ahspedia/ and add your character name after that, Firstname_Lastname. (no period) Click on 'edit' and paste what you copied in Step 1 here.

Step 3

Fill out the template, by replacing the all caps words with the respective information. Most or everything you'll be copying directly from your already made profile at AHS. Keep the look and the feel of the page the same as other people's, but you can remove parts you want (such as Relationships) and/or add parts. Don't be afraid to modify.

Edit the Category-tags for School, Grade and Year of Birth. For the School category, simply replace all after the colon and before the two square brackets with the acronym for your character's school. For Brian Ronin this would look like this: [[Category:ASA]]

The Grade category is easier, simply place the number of your character's grade on the place of the X, is he/she graduated replace all between the colon and the two square brackets with 'Graduated', for Staff characters do the same as graduates, only place 'Staff' there.

The Year of Birth category is a bit complicated again. Simply, for most characters you can simply fill out their year of birth, but there are some larger groups for those immortal characters, or just plain old characters. They replace the stuff between the colon and the two square brackets with 'pre' and then the categorized year. You can use: 1985, 1980, 1950, 1900, 1800, 1700, 1500, 1000, BC. If the year of birth is unknown simply type Unknown. If the character is from the future, and thus has yet to be born and reach the age which he/she currently is, simply place 'Future'

Press Save page when you're done--that's all there is to it!

Headings

You can add sections if you like and use more or less equal (=) signs, the more the smaller the text within the signs. If you use one or two equal signs then you get a 'free' horizontal line under the text, if you want a horizontal line somewhere four minuses or <hr /> will do. Four minuses is Wiki format, which is easier to learn/edit/work with. Wikipedia itself advises not to use this to much, since you'll get a horizontal line whenever you make a heading with 1 or 2 equal signs.

Text styling

As you might have noticed, there are a lot of apostrophes in the template, these make the text in between either bold or italic, or of course both!

Three apostrophes results in bold text and two will result in italic text, five will be read as three, then two, resulting in bold and italic text.

Links

Wiki links

If you want to create a link to a page on this Wiki you can do so by placing the title between double square brackets.

Like This

If you want to add text to that link (for example the text: "This links to Like This") you can do so by placing a | after the link, then the text you want.

This links to Like This
External links

To make a link to some page (for example google.com) that's not on this Wiki, an external link, you only need to use one square bracket on each side.

No brackets also work in this case, but that will add the link itself as text.

Whichever you prefer using. Adding brackets however will add some possibilities.

To add text to such a link, you can do so by adding a space after the link and then the text you want

Same can be done with picture links, just replace the link text with a image link

This concludes a 'small' tutorial into Wiki editing and creating. Have fun.
