Noviy Gorky (New Gorky)

The city captured amidst bloody fighting during the Two Weeks War. Outside the city is located the Red Cage, the most secure military base on New Ukraine, and, ironically, its largest employer. The poor soil on Noviy Gorky's northern continent precludes intensive farming, but rich iron ore and bauxite veins provide the city with an economic life outside the military base. The black hue of the soil and the region's volatile history gives rise to the region's semi-official nickname, the Black Pale. More formally, however, this region is referred to as the Extreme Northern Territories. The planet's GRU Headquarters is supposedly based inside the Red Cage.
