Jack Bartlett( also known as Heartbreak 1 in the game) is an Osean Air Defense fighter pilot. He is the squdron leader of the 108th tactical fighter squadron(known as the Wardog Squadron or Sand Island Squadron). Early in the game(the second mission) Bartlett is shot down after taking a missle from one of his trainees, Kei Nagase(callsign Edge in the game. He immediatley becomes the first POW of the war(it is later revieled that he escaped before the opposing country, which is revieled to be Yuktobania, could get him to the prison camp). In about the 26th mission bartlett reappears and has the Yuktobanian Prime Minister Nikanor. You must protect him till he can get to an airfield and escape. In this mission, the woman who broke Bartlett's heart( a recon major in the Yuke army) is introduced. it appears as if they still have feelings for each other as Bartlett makes comments such as: "Quit showing those legs so much! their real distracting!". The woman would respond with comments such as: "Brings back old memories, huh?". After this mission you perform one more in which it seems as if he suddenly disappeared and you have to fight a major sea battle between both Yuke and Osean ships(you are now supposedly dead according to records as you'll find earlier in the game). In the last mission(not the sub mission called "The Unsung War" as the game is titled, the one called "Aces"), you will see Bartlett one more time. You must destroy a control panel in the deep center of an extremely narrow and extremely long tunnel. The problem being you must destroy two of them and you can only go in once. This is were Bartlett comes in. He flys in from the opposite end and destroys the other panel. You must fly past him head on at high speed. The last thing he says in the game is "WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO!!!" as he flys right past you. You then face one last mission and hear nothing of him after. Nagase also appears to have a bit of an obsession with him throughout the game, asking various charecters if they have seen him. She also appears to have a bit of an intrest in Blaze, the charecter you play. It wouldnt be an understatement to say she may be in love with Blaze. Bartlett for the most part is a little cocky but a good experienced pilot who cares about gettin the crew back alive more than anything. he isnt afraid to defy orders to protect his pilots. it could possibly be because he lost several trainees in a battle seen in the first cut scene of the game. All in all, he is a great pilot.
