Episode 34: Anime is weird, man

From Accct Wiki

Yang continued to draw as the teacher wrote on the board. He had drawn the kids in his class as manga characters and had given them all unique abilities.

1. He and Yin were drawn as a mahou shonen and mahou shojo. That meant Yang was a magical boy and that Yin was a magical girl (in that order.) Like the other drawn kids, they were both in a mixed style of anime and manga (Sony-Mae’s gallery on deviantART is a perfect example!) and wore costumes similar to the ones worn by Mahou Shojo Lyrical Nanoha and Syaoran (the costume from the second CCS movie.) Yin wielded a scepter like Nanoha’s, but the jewel was light aqua instead of red, and she could cast spells with her scepter. Yang wielded a sword that wasn’t made of bamboo that could cast elemental spells and change into other items (ex: yang-a-rang, staff, etc.)

2. Wakko was drawn as a samurai with light, magical boy-type shoulder armor over his sweater, and had a sword like Yang’s, but it didn’t shape shift. Dot was drawn as, what Yin called, a magical princess. Dot’s outfit was like a pink kimono with a mini-skort, tights, and those wooden Japanese sandals (What are they called?). She had a huge magenta bow holding up her ears. Her weapons of choice were an ocarina that could turn into a bow-and-arrow, and a flute that could heal any serious wound.

3. Yakko was drawn in a brown mage-like costume, like the one worn by Yuno from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. He could perform mostly healing magic, but he could use a few attacks.

4. Felix the Cat was drawn with his usual bag of tricks, except Yang drew it as a backpack. All he had to do was say his incantation and then the bag would turn into special armor for him. His costume resembles the ones from Samurai Pizza Cats.

5. Buster Bunny was drawn with a purple cape with a tall collar and also had a witch hat with holes for his ears. He simply wore his usual red sweater and brown pants underneath. Babs wore a black cape with a tall collar and a witch hat as well. She wore her same clothes underneath.

Even though he had tons more drawings of his many classmates to look through, Yang closed his drawing book, without checking the other sketches, and mentally sighed. He had to wait forever for Bob Boyle to get started on season two of Yin Yang Yo, the cartoon he and his sister Yin starred in. In the meantime, he could only wish for an adventure. ‘School is so boring, that you could actually die in the next ten seconds, and that every single fly and vulture that touched you would die too. I’d rather be anywhere but here.’ He thought. With an expression of boredom mixed with disappointment, he looked down at the cover of his drawing book.

He had drawn all over it, with pictures straight from his mind. He stopped on a particular drawing. Lina had drawn it, and it was a picture of their class as chibi versions of themselves. ‘I wish Mangatopia was a real place, full of powers, magic, adventures, anything and everything you could expect in a manga!’ He thought, a little smile showing on his face. His smile soon faded. ‘Yeah right, like that could ever happen, even if this is ToonTown.’

Yang walked into the lunchroom with his class. He had brought his drawings along with his lunch and tried to remember where he sat. “Hey Yang!” someone shouted. He saw his sister Yin, Lena, Felix, and the Warner Brothers (and the Warner Sister) sitting at table 4, waving to let him know where they were sitting. He took a seat next to Yin and began to scarf down his pizza slice. After they all finished lunch and recess, the day was pretty boring.

Yang looked down at the sketches he made. They were giant robot replicas of his classmates, with descriptions of the weapons and other stuff. There were tons of them, scattered across his desk. Yang gathered them together into a pile and placed it to the side. He was finishing up the last sketch. It was a sketch of a giant robot with all sorts of attachments, being that it was made up of all the other robots, and it resembled a rabbit. All he had to do was color it.

Man, when it came to drawing, Yang was actually a genius.

He looked at the digital alarm near his bed. “Yang, it’s time for bed.” Yin walked over to her side of the room. Almost everything was pink (minus the walls) and girly. She got under her covers and pulled out a good book. She stopped a minute and looked up from her book. She looked at her brother with a slightly annoyed look.

“Are you still drawing?” Yang turned around in his chair and said, “Well, I just can’t stop thinking about Mangatopia.” “Manga-what?” “Mangatopia, it’s an anime/manga world created by Ami Onuki,” Yang explained. “Where heroes beat the snot out of the bad guys, people have fun, and giant robots kick butt! And it’s never too cliché!” “You mean it’s made by the same Ami from Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi?” Yin asked. “Yup, but she didn’t make it all by herself. Tons of artists from Human World have used all their effort and skills to make Mangatopia!” He looked at one of the robot sketches. “I just wish it was real.”

“You do know that this is Toon World we live in, and that anything can happen, right?” Yin asked. “Yeah, I know.” Yang stretched and got up from his chair. He took off his usual woo-foo uniform, put on some green pajamas, and went over to his side of the room. It was all blue (except the walls) and boyish with a couple swords. He hopped into his bed. He thought, At least tomorrow’s trip will be cool. Besides, I’ll get to show off my drawing skills!

Yang couldn’t stop smiling and thinking about the field trip as his class got onto the bus. Maybe that’s because they were taking a trip to the New York Comic-Con. Yang took a seat with his sister and immediately pulled out his beloved sketch book. Yin looked at her brother’s picture. “What’s that you drew?” she asked. “It’s the big battle where the kid heroes defeat one of the many most evil baddies in all of Mangatopia! And I’m gonna get it signed by Joe Murray, the genius behind Rocko’s Modern Life and Camp Lazlo!”

“Just keep in mind, we’re heading to a Comic-Con in the Human World, Yang. Don’t do anything that’ll make them suspicious.” “Ah, they’ll just see me as another crazy fan.” Yang went back to his anime/manga masterpiece. For an 11-year-old toon rabbit, he was pretty good.

“Wow!” “How cool!” “This is amazing!” Those were some of the things the students said as they looked around. Yang was especially excited. He was now in the guise of a human boy, 11 years of age, he had shortish-long brown hair with some blue streaks, and he wore a blue long-sleeved shirt with green pants and blue and white sneakers. Even though he was told not to stray far from the class, he occasionally stopped to stare at an artist’s work.

After the show (involving cosplayers and guest of honor Rob Paulsen 3), the class took a snack break. On the way there, Yang tripped and dropped his sketchpad. When he got back up, he found the pad and searched for his pencil. He found it, lying in an inkwell (don’t ask why), took it out, and caught up with his class.

After eating many slices of pizza, (Wakko was counting, but he got hungry and lost count) Yang returned to his art. He drew the seven connected islands that made up Kiara, one of the many continents of Mangatopia. Kiara consisted of seven islands:

1. Sunset Hill

2. Color Cove

3. Eon Jungle

4. Musicana Town

5. Sand Ruins

6. Urei City

7. The Legendary Gates of Naoto

‘I know I’ve probably said this like a thousand times before, but I wish that Mangatopia was real.’ Suddenly, Yang felt a slight breeze blowing onto his back. “Why’s it so cold?” he wondered aloud. “Did you feel that, Yin?” Yin licked up the last of her vanilla ice cream. She had long light brown hair with a few pink streaks, half of it up in a ponytail. She also wore a rose-pink dress shirt with lavender Capri pants and pink and white sneakers. “Feel what, Yang?” “Did you feel a chilly breeze at all?” “Yeah, I did, but there aren’t any doors or windows open.”

They looked over at all the other kids, even the ones wearing sweatshirts were feeling chilly. “What is going on here, some kind of epidemic?” Yin asked. Suddenly, small blusters of wind began to circle around Yin and Yang. Then, all the students were somehow being encircled by wind, the blusters getting stronger all the time. They began lifting into the air, glowing a bright golden light. Yang tried yelling for help, but no one could see or hear what was happening to the students. Yang shut his eyes as tightly as he could, hoping that this was all a nightmare...

“Hello? Are you awake? If you can here me, say something.”

Yang slowly opened his eyes, sat up and rubbed his head. When his vision had cleared up, he noticed one thing: he sure wasn’t in Human World anymore, because he had turned back to normal. (That is, if you can call toons normal.)

He suddenly felt a sharp pain go through his arms and back. “No, please, you must lay down, sir! You have not fully recovered from your injuries.” Yang turned to see who it was. It was a Warner-like creature with red fur, instead of black, wearing a nurse’s outfit. She appeared to be around 15 or 16.

“What?” he dizzily asked. “Where am I? Who are you?”

“You are in Sunset Hill.” said a new voice. Yang found the voice coming from what looked like a floating cat head with an antenna sticking out of its head. (For those of you who’ve ever seen Sailor Moon!) “This is Flora, and I am Lina-P.”

Yang was about to return to his sleep, but he suddenly realized something. “Wait a minute! Did you just say that I’m in Sunset Hill?!”

“Yes, it’s one of the seven islands that make up Kiara, one of Mangatopia’s largest continents.” Flora answered. “Now hold still, sir. CURE!”

Lina-P’s antenna glowed and cast a white-blue ray over his body. When the ray disappeared, Yang sat up, free of any pain that he had before.

“Wow, how did you do that?” he asked.

“Cure is just one of Lina-P’s many abilities. Now follow me, you are needed most urgently.”

Yang followed Flora and Lina-P out of the hut they were in. Yang got a good look at it from outside. It was made from wood and had a huge leaf for a roof, just as he had designed the homes to be. ‘This can not be happening.’ Yang thought. ‘Mangatopia isn’t real, and yet...it feels like it always existed.’

After about an hour and 12 minutes of training, Yang, who was wearing the same costume as Li from the second Card Captor Sakura movie, had now equipped himself with his super-sharp sword and Sakura cards. (He just wishes that they weren’t pink!)

“Good luck in finding your friends, Yang!” Flora bid him adieu.

“No worries, I’ve got it covered!” he gave her a thumbs-up and pulled out the fly card. “Let’s go!” he slammed his sword down upon the card. There was a small blinding light, and Yang’s bamboo staff had wings attached to it. “Next stop, Urei City!”
