"Over the frost and void and forever we saw
As the timeless taunted as their green flares danced
Their victim’s twisted sins now forever gone
Their false reason with the timeless silence."

-Vhozon Poem "Ashes and Architects"

The Vhozon are a race of ancient super powerful beings that exist in the Angler Galaxy. They were the race credited for bringing about the destruction of the Necrons. The Vhozon collective sees themselves as a race superior to the other races of the galaxy, and thus that they are the only ones who can keep order within it. This puts them at odds with all forces of the universe. Vhozon now send out teams as far as the Sherigu System, attempting to destroy the Necrons as they awaken.

History

Vho and the Early Expansion

The Vhozon first appeared on the planet Vho, a subzero planet on the edge of the Angler Galaxy, around 4 million BZ. They evolved from a creature known as the Bladed Tundra Beetle, a native subterranean creature on Vho, and eventually achieved civilization status. Because of fierce flash-freeze ice storms, the Vhozon created their cities either underground or in the three hundred foot ice spires that dominated the planet's crust.

Accelerating the technology of the Vhozon was the vast mineral reserves below the frozen layer of Vho. The Subterranean Vhozon quickly learned how to manipulate these metals into structures and plating. The reserves of petroleum allowed for the first primitive machines, while the rich soil below the ice level lead them to develop the planet's first agriculture. Meanwhile, the spire Vhozon discovered primitive flying devices that would allow them to ride the flash-freeze storms, as well as a way of manipulating ice to form a hard, almost metallic element.

The various tribes and nations would occasionally go to war with one another, but the Vhozon existed in a relative equilibrium. In 2,090,000 BZ, a Vhozon leader known only as the Judicator appeared, coming from one of the few tribes that still roamed the ice plains. Through a campaign of war, he united the tribes of Vho into a single, planetary nation. He established his capitol in the highest of the ice spires, naming it Telematrus.

The Judicator created the basis for what is today Vhozon culture. Realizing the psychic potential of his race, he gathered those of greatest psychic power and created the Seer Council. These would serve as overseers for the Vhozon race, and decide their actions based on their prophecies of future events. The Judicator also forced cooperation between the spire and subterranean Vhozon, leading to the strange blend of metallic and ice based technology the Vhozon are known for today.

Ten thousand years later the Vhozon created a ship capable of exiting their planet's orbit, known in their language as the Overseer. At this point, the Vhozon became curious about what lay beyond their planet. For the next thousand years they would work to develop better technologies to expand to other planets and go beyond their own system.

The Age of Expansion and the Plague

The Vhozon finally achieved faster-than-light travel with a technology known as the Time Refractor, whose workings are still unknown to the lesser races. They were able to move about their galaxy with impunity. However, they soon discovered it to be very empty, save for several planets with primitive organisms. As their empire expanded, they began to think of themselves as alone in the universe, the only creatures to have achieved sentience.

Twenty thousand years into their expansion the Vhozon had settled on three hundred systems, and achieved Vhoform, the act of thickening a planet's atmosphere to achieve sub-zero conditions in order make conditions livable for Vhozon creatures, on two hundred planets. The Seer Council on Vho arrived with a warning to the ruler at the time, Leader Hoxinu: the expansion had to cease or a great calamity would befall the Vhozon race. Hoxinu ignored the advice of the Seer Council, and expanded into a system that would come to be known as the Bearer's System.

At first the expansion went smoothly, the system was devoid of any life beyond the fauna stage of development. The Vhozon began the process of Vhoforming a warm swamp world known as Barcash. The process of Vhoforming would usually kill off any harmful pathogens in the environment, but on Barcash it had actually caused a strain called the Barcash Decaying Plague to thrive. As the Vhozon had not faced pathogens of this lethality before, the disease spread quickly through the colonization force. Not knowing of the plague they held, they returned to other Vhozon worlds, including Vho itself.

It was estimated the loss of life due to the Barcash Rotting Plague was somewhere in the hundreds of billions. It was a slow-acting disease that rotted the bodies of the Vhozon from the inside of their shell-like structure. At the time the Vhozon had very little in the way of medical technology, relying on their strong immune systems and inhospitable living conditions to screen their environment of harmful pathogens for them. They resorted to killing those with the first signs of infection; red spots showing up beneath their armor plated arms. This would be known as the Red Dot Scouring, and a dark chapter in Vhozon history.

However unethical, the Red Dot Scouring stopped the Barcash Rotting Plague from spreading any further. The Seer Council and the Vhozon Leader met together to discuss a new doctrine for exploring the universe. They would explore not to settle, but to observe, and learn the ways of new races so they could better understand the workings of the universe. They would also not get involved with any race that had not achieved the same level of technological advancement as the Vhozon. This agreement came to be known as the Observer Accords.
