Third Person

From Torg Adventure

Jenny's stomach knotted from both elation and dread as she walked next to Ashley. They were walking from the bus stop to Ashley's house for Jenny's first play date in kindergarten. She was excited about her first time into a friend's house. A sense of dread at the unknown simultaneously dampened her spirits.

Jenny's parents were cautious and had only wanted her friends to play at her house. Until now. Since she was in kindergarten, they thought it would be okay to let her go to other people's houses. Ashley was a cute little girl that sat next to Jenny. Now they were going to have lunch and play all afternoon.

As they walked up sidewalk, Jenny liked the look of the house. It was covered in off-white stucco and had lots of windows. "That window up on the second floor on the left is mine," Ashley said with pride. "I can look out and see everything that's going on in the neighborhood." Ashley's mom was standing in the doorway, smiling at the girls. She was pretty in a Mom sort of way, Jenny thought.

"You must be Jenny," she said. "I'm Brenda, Ashley's mom. Come on in. I've got lunch almost finished."

The living room was neat, with pleasant furniture and nice pictures on the walls. Brenda led the two girls through a door on the far end of the room, which led to the kitchen. It wasn't huge, but it had lots of cupboards. A table sat in the back under the window. Jenny smelled something cooking, but couldn't tell what it was.

"Why don't you girls wash up before we eat, okay?" Brenda asked. The girls nodded and Ashley led the way to the bathroom. They giggled as they squished lather between their fingers. When they cam eback to the kitchen, Ashley's mom was serving up macaroni and cheese. They sat next to each other at the table, while Brenda put carrots on their plates and poured glasses of milk.
