Originally, Becanol was settled by humble moisture farmers who wanted to escape attention of both the Empire and the Federation. Some say they were seeking redemption for past crimes, others say they were looking for the adventure found on the edge of known space. Neither case matters because soon, corporations discovered that Becanol, as a desert world with plenty of available solar power, has the ideal conditions for the very energy intensive bio-technology sector. To make matters even more favorable, the planet's neutrality (read as 'no strict testing regulations') and water-laiden neighbor planet Zelada made expansion a breeze. And if a few clones happen to go missing from the research facilities every so often, possibly sold as slaves or 'testing material', no one really seems to notice.
