Lukas Steps on a Ketchup packet in Port Angeles
From The Extended Group
This event occurred during the Shorewood Marching Band trip to Victoria, British Columbia during spring of 2000. On the first day, the band travelled in several chartered buses first to Port Townsend where they performed in a parade, and then to Port Angeles where they were to catch the Blackball Ferry to Victoria. Upon arriving in Port Angeles at approximately 5 PM, the young musicians were quite hungry as they had no opportunity for lunch and hadnt eaten since 7 that morning. Near the ferry terminal was a small pavillion in which there was a Dairy Queen. Quickly ordering food, group members Brett, Lukas, and Stuart left and walked to where students were lined up to board the boat. Lukas had ordered a chicken sandwich and Brett just an order of fries which they consumed along the way. Upon reaching the other students, there wasnt anything to do so most of the band-members just stood around talking. It was during this time when Brett placed an unused ketchup packet on the ground and began furtively stepping on the corner of it in a vain attempt to make the casing rupture. Lukas, seeing his weak attempt pushed him aside and stepped full force onto the packet causing ketchup to exit the area under his foot at high speed. Reveling in the laughter that ensued, Lukas and Brett returned to a small group containing Stuart, Eric Santroch, Karl Christopherson, and Jamie Spenard. It was then that someone caught Lukas's attention and diverted it back to the site of the ketchup explosion. His eyes found the packet and following the radial pattern of ejected ketchup, soon found himself looking at a semi-circle of very angry Shorewood Drill Team members in full uniform. Hoping not to draw a scene, the now blushing and awkwardly smiling Lukas continued to stand in with his group in the vain hope that he would not be singled out as the culprit. Moments later his heart sank when a small asian girl whose nametag designated her the captain of the team marched up to him and began berating him for his stupidity getting ketchup on their uniforms when there was no time to clean them before the big parade. After Lukas made a flustered apology, the girl finally left Lukas to his snickering friends. Later, aboard the boat, a group came together to try to convince Lukas to approach the drill-team captain and apologize more formally. Stuart used the logic "I already only have a one in a million chance of dating one of them, I dont want to make it any lower" Justin Alonzo-Fuller added: "He just wants attention, even if its bad attention". Lukas refused however on the grounds that he already apologized and another apology would be superfluous. He was irritated to find out that in his absence, Stuart and the others found the girl in question and apologized on his behalf without his consent.
