Because the Crisis on Infinite Earths only made things more confusing, DC comics created Zero Hour to try and wrap up loose ends.

Long story short- Hal Jordan goes insane, becomes Parallax, tries to redo time, Spectre kicks his ass.

Unfortunately, this didn't help, and only made fanboys more confused.
