A creature distinct from the fanboy, the fangirl possesses an obsessive, unwavering devotion to a specific character, although there are fangirls of larger groups, such as a certain group of characters, a certain character type, or even of a certain show/series/comic/what-have-you. Generally female, though male specimens have been observed, fangirls are known for such activities as fanfic and fanart, and they can become quite vicious if someone dares insult their chosen object of affection.
