Wind Song

From Soloralwiki

The Wind Song is an artifact said by Soloralists to have been created by Clistiro himself. Originally found in the island-continent of Solaria, it has the remarkable ability to imbue all sentient species on Micras the ability to use magic.

History

It was first found by the Microns roughly in the year 40,000 BED on the island that would eventually be known to them as Solaria. Understanding the knowledge the Wind Song had bestoyed upon them, the majority of the microns on the expedition quickly embraced their new gift, most famously Rii'Iia. Some had headed back to Micronae to spread the news of the discovery. However, not all would embrace the new powers. A large faction of the microns, once learning the discovery of the Wind Song, thought that magic was too tempting, too powerful for mortals to wield, and refused to use it. This faction became so strong that microns who embraced magic had to leave their home continent for Solaria. These magic-user microns are the ancestors of the Solarians. Eventually, the other microns (The ancestors of the rest of the micron species) would reluctantly accept magic, although it would not come as easy to them as the Solarians would.

The other species of the planet, such as humans, elves, and ogres would have their own schisms as well after discovering magic. The ogres' magic users had transformed themselves so much that they had to be considered a new race - the orcs. The Imperials, however, fully embraced the power that magic would bring them.

Power

The Wind Song is said to give the users of the planet the ability to use magic, but how? According to Soloralism, magic is the manipulation of the Empathi Field to come in contact and draw power from supernatural sources. The ability of a being to manipulate the field depends on how strong the local Empathi Field is. However, the critical empathi field density of a planet (even one with life and thus quintessential energy) is generally too low for a being to manipulate the Empathi Field. (A notable exception of this is the planet of Geldica, whose local empathi field density are high enough for a being to innately use magic, caused by the vast divine influence on the planet.)

The Wind Song augments the Empathi Field by acting as a source for empathi energy, just as the existance of proton acts as a source of electric field. This causes the field levels of the planet to hit critical levels, allowing sensitive quintessential creatures (The sentient species) to be sensitive toward the Empathi Field, which allows them to manipulate the field to use magic. Unlike an electric charge, however, the Wind Song's "empathi charge" flucuates.

This flucuation (which is not a constant rate - some say that the Wind Song flucuates because of the state of the planet, although Soloralist theologies are puzzled about how exactly this is possible) causes the empathi field levels of the planet to change, which in turn changes the sensitivity levels of the races of Micras. A higher sensitivity toward the Empathi Field means that magic is easier to use. Some people are born naturally sensitive to the Empathi Field, which means that if the Wind Song is weak enough, only a select few can use magic. Currently, the Wind Song is waning in power; its last height during the period of Menelmacar.

The Wind Song is also one of the seven Fate Distortion Crystals - the only one in the dimension that Micras is in. It bonded with Erika Lekuan during the Dimensional World War.
